The Peel Group has marked the launch of its Gas & Oil business by joining United Kingdom Onshore Oil and Gas (UKOOG), the representative body for the UK’s onshore oil and gas industry.

Peel Gas & Oil works with current and prospective onshore license holders as a development partner, drawing on the Peel Group’s skills and assets in land, infrastructure, utilities, transport and planning.

Working alongside other Peel subsidiaries, including Ports and Logistics, Peel Gas & Oil provides integrated property solutions for the emerging shale gas industry in the UK. The company is working with IGas on a number of sites across the North West with further partnerships to be announced in the coming months.

Myles Kitcher, Peel Gas & Oil Managing Director, said:

“The UK economy stands to benefit hugely from the emerging onshore shale gas sector. The supply chain opportunities will be extensive and in the North West region alone over 3500 new jobs could be created.

“This represents a huge opportunity to develop a thriving supply chain in the UK but we need to act quickly. We focus on helping operators navigate the complex process of establishing sites, right from land acquisition, through planning consent and to site construction. Ultimately, this allows operators to focus on their core skills – exploration and production – which will help to accelerate delivery and de-risk investment in the UK.”

As part of UKOOG, Peel Gas & Oil will sit amongst UK onshore licence holders, operators and suppliers, which make up the UK’s representative body for onshore oil and gas exploration and production. The membership organisation works to promote clear and open dialogue for the onshore oil and gas industry while ensuring first rate safety, environment, operations and management standards.

•    As part of the privately owned Peel Group, Peel Gas & Oil works with current and prospective onshore license holders as a surface development partner to expedite delivery and reduce front-end costs for license operators.
•    Peel Gas & Oil is uniquely placed to support the sector drawing on the Group’s skills and assets in land, infrastructure, utilities, environment, transport and planning. The Peel Group has over thirty years’ experience of securing planning consents and understands the importance of engaging with local, regional and political stakeholders.
•    Earlier this year the Peel Group jointly commissioned a report with IGas Energy plc, Potential Economic Impacts of Shale Gas in the Ocean Gateway. The report published by Amion Consulting highlights significant potential gains from shale gas production. This found that extracting shale gas in the North West’s Ocean Gateway region could trigger a £10 billion boost for the region and support up to 3500 jobs.
